Summary:

Four years of experience designing and working with large high precision industrial ink-jet (IIJ) printing systems used in the production of flat-panel displays.  Recently responsible for the development, from concept to completion, of a high precision, high performance, Generation 8 size (5m x 6m x 25 mm XYZ travel) XYZ stage that was in spec, on schedule, and within budget.

Professional Experience:

Litrex Corporation                                                                                     Pleasanton, CA

Motion Systems Engineer                                                                        7/04-Current

Overview

Responsible for the development, build, configuration, tuning, calibration, and support of high axes-count, micron-level-precision motion systems

Quickly moved from entry-level position to overall motion system architect with management-level responsibilities

Consistently recognized as highest tier contributor in annual performance evaluations

Generation 8 Motion System Technical Lead  1/07-Present

Developed, from concept to completion, a high precision, high performance, Gen 8 stage

Generated stage specifications and conceptual layout based on printing strategies, error budget analysis, and TACT-time requirements

Used FEA (Mechanica) and Matlab simulations to size the machine’s structural elements to maximize machine accuracy and throughput

Achieved demanding repeatability, velocity, acceleration, and step-and-settle specifications

Devised the motion system architecture used to control all twenty-seven axes of motion; specified axes layout, control strategies, safety mechanisms, system stiffness requirements, controller components, amplifiers, encoders, and motors

Directed development of motion controller firmware and created specifications for upper level software tools used to enhance the reliability of the motion system while simplifying debugging and service of the motion system

Configured, tuned, and programmed the system’s motion controllers

Generation 5.5 System Technical Program Manager  6/06-12/06

Managed an international interdisciplinary team in the development of a high accuracy version of a G5.5 size IIJ printer

Synchronized efforts between team members and consultants in Texas, California, and Japan

Responsible for the specification and design of the G5.5 stage

Delivered an extensive design complete documentation package on time

Generation 5.5 Stage Lead Engineer 1/06-6/06

Collaborated with stage vendor to modify and improve an existing design

Performed FEA analysis on stage structure to improve stage stiffness and reduce relative (X vs. Y) motion issues in the original design

Teamed up with a motor vendor to develop a custom arc-shaped linear motor to enable direct-drive of a high precision rotary axis

Motion Systems Engineer  7/04-1/06

Worked with a stage vendor to specify and integrate a 4-axis motion subsystem into an existing main stage design

Selected and packaged motion control components and support electronics

Created interconnect diagrams in Orcad.  Designed and built all cable assemblies

Tuned motion controller and developed motion controller firmware based on specifications from upper-level software team

Led interdisciplinary team during product installation in South Korea

Performed laser interferometer measurements and implemented compensation algorithms
